Show Time 9pm / Doors Open 7:30pm

John Etheridge brings Sweet Chorus to the Club for the last night of his residency. John formed Sweet Chorus on news of the death of the greatest violinist in Jazz ,Stephane Grappelli, with whom he toured for many years in the 70s and early 80s. This was and is a very personal tribute – not a reconstruction of the music but a continuation of Grappelli’s free spirit and playfulness. Christian Garrick, a virtuoso by any standards, takes the violin chair, and they are joined by Dave Kelbie (guitar) and Andy Crowdie (bass). The band made its debut at the club in March 1998, so this is a welcome return .

"It is music that demands that you close your eyes and listen, for only then can the ethereal nature of what is being played stand separate from the physical reality of darting fingers and blurred plectrums." The Guardian

The Bevin Boys

The Bevin Boys sound is rooted in 1940s post-war Britain, as the sound of big bands was replaced by small combos often with new, exciting and revolutionary sound of the electric guitar. Great American Songbook tunes were combined with the emerging influence of the bebop and R&B sounds that dominated the US music scene. This is where the Bevin Boys pick up the story – following the legacy of the great Ray Ellington (Yes Ray, not The Duke) you will be amazed to hear this vocal-lead trio swing hard and then – with equal ease and panache – move you with beautiful ballads.

The recording contains 8 soulful, playful, open-ended original compositions and one Paul Motian tune. This concert will include the rhythm section from his previous album 'Mother Stump', Michael Bates (bass) and Jeremy Clemons (drums), plus Ben Wendel from the acclaimed band Kneebody on bassoon and sax. EFG London Jazz Festival 2015 - Zara McFarlane
Show Time 8:30pm / Doors Open 7pm

Zara McFarlane’s debut album, 2011’s 'Until Tomorrow', was garlanded with rave reviews and a MOBO award nomination, and heralded a major new talent in the world of British jazz. The follow-up, also recorded for Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings label, is a more ambitious collection that draws from many more influences: from the deep spiritual jazz of Pharoah Sanders to dub and reggae. When not working on her own material, Zara has performed as a featured vocalist in Gary Crosby’s Jazz Jamaica, and performed with esteemed British jazzers such as Orphy Robinson, Denys Baptiste and Soweto Kinch. She’s fronted Italian DJ Nicola Conte’s big band, performed at a Nina Simone tribute concert in Amsterdam and played support for South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela and American singer Gregory Porter.
